UiWE has been invited to develop concepts for a series of temporary urban spaces i Carlsberg as a part of a team with the architectural office Keinicke & Overgaard. If all goes well the first space will be ready to inhabit this summer. The project is a joint venture between Realdania, Lokale- og Anlægsfonden (The Danish Foundation for Culture and Sports Facilities), Carlsberg and København Kommune (the city of Copenhagen).
Christian speaks at “Kulturkonference 2010” (Culture Conference 2010) organized by The Local Government Training and Development Centre (COK/Center for Offentlig Kompetenceudvikling) – the Danish municipalities’ and regions’ nationwide organization for training and development. On the agenda are cultural strategies in urban development with the cultural planning of Køge as case.
UiWE made a film about the NYP (Netværk for yngre planlæggere/ Network for Young Planners) Wintercamp held by Amager Vest Lokaludvalg at ITU in January. The 14-minute film documents the process as well as the ideas proposed to develop the diverse area of Amager Vest. Showing cases, discussions, workflow and presentations, the film gives an impression of the NYP cross-disciplinary approach to planning.
UiWE starts up a master program course running through March on social innovation and design methodology at Malmö University’s school of Arts and Communication, Culture- and media production. The course explores cultural analysis and strategies to promote social change. In this case it’s about developing cross-sector solutions to one of the great health challenges in western societies: child obesity. The UiWE documentary about two favela leaders in Brazil in a tough, corrupt election, is screened at Doc Lounge CPH at Husets Café, i Huset March 10th at 8 PM, doors open at 7. An informal Q&A with Christian, Brazilian Music, Capueira, beers and drinks, follow the screening. Battle of Rabbit Town is also shown in Prague, March 10-17, as part of the official selection of One World International Human Rights Film Festival and Christian is going there to present the film.
On wednesday the 3rd of february UiWE was invited by KEC to talk about social innovation and entrepreneurship in urban development. The talk was attended by project managers from urban renewal projects (Områdefornyelse og områdeløft) in the copenhagen area and representatives from center for bydesign (centre of urban design) and center for byudvikling (centre of urban development)
UiWE has been prequalified for the parallel competition for the future development of KØGE KYST with a strong team consisting of Polyform, Grontmij Carl Bro, 2+1, Ekstrakt and Oxford Research. The competion aims at realizing a high-profile strategic project in the 24 hectar area involving the town opening up towards the water and linking the new part of town to the historical town centre.
How do you convert knowledge into business? That is the subject of the an introductory course February 1st at Copenhagen Business Centre. The course is geared toward the entrepreneur who wants to start his own business and uses a combination of theory and first hand experience.
From a warm office in a freezing meatpacking district we send greetings to all of you – collaborators, clients, and friends – who made our first year in the culture design business possible. UiWe has been assigned by Amager Vest Lokal Udvalg (Amager West Community Council) to design the brief for a workshop on the future development of Amager West. The workshop will be attended by Netværk for Yngre Planlæggere (Network for Young Planners), and aims at exploring a cross-diciplinary and process-oriented approach to the development of Amager West.
Christian gives a crash course in cultural communication and planning at Malmö University’s masters program Kultur- och Medievetenskap. The product is a mapping of cultural potential and challenges in the city of Århus, looking ahead to the bid for Århus Cultural Capital 2017.
UiWe produces a new short film on urban artistic intervention as part of the LysLyd-project (SoundLight-project) and COP 15.The German art- and architect group Mader Stubic Wiermann turns Dong Energy’s Avedøre power plant into a 145 meters tall screen for light and video installation. UiWe and the task-force for public-private partnerships at Erhvervs- og byggestyrelsen (Danish Enterprise and Construction Authority) arranged a workshop at the municipality of Copenhagen on collaboration, culture and value in urban planning and administration. The workshop was attended by lawyers and economists of KEC (Copenhagen Center of Business), Center for Bydesign (Center of Urban Design) and Borgerservice (Citizen services )

UiWe has completed the OPS_09 workshop and process for Erhvervs- og Byggestyrelsen (Danish Enterprise and Construction Authority). This autumn we produced 11 short films capturing the events of LYSLYD– a regional project revolving around the development of urban culture, business & innovation in the Copenhagen region. The result is 11 stories from today’s urban and suburban Denmark mirrored in the projects of Danish and international artists.

Today UiWe recieved a grant from Statens Kunstfond (Danish Art Foundation) to attend Creative Places + Spaces in Toronto october 28th – one of the world’s leading forums on creativity.
Under the theme of ‘The Collaborative City’, the conference will engage global perspectives on collaboration and connect them with local change makers. UiWe have been assigned to facilitate an all-day idea workshop for Erhvervs- og byggestyrelsen (Danish Enterprise and Construction Authority) for some 60 managing directors from the municipalities, the regions and private companies. The aim is to develop new ideas to enhance public private collaborations. The workshop takes place on September 15th 2009.
