White stripes on Carlsberg

The first stripes are being painted to mark up a contemporary, intimate and social urban space in the neighbourhood of Carlsberg. We hope to see you for the opening of the first of three squares June 24 where Carlsberg hosts a grand opening with an outdoor screening of the World Cup match between Denmark and Japan.

UiWE speaks at MindLab

The French social innovation agency La 27e Region hosts a study to the Øresund Region for a range of regional decision makers in France. As part of the programme Uffe Elbæk and UiWE have been asked to give a presentation at Mindlab of the idea of a Social Innovation Lab in Copenhagen committed to develop new, cross disciplinary solutions to today’s (and tomorrow’s) social challenges.

Both Christian and Jacob will work as external examiners this summer. Christian is part of the examination team at Copenhagen School of Design and Technology (KEA) at the BA programme “Ideation Design”. Jacob is affiliated with the department of Architecture & Design at the University of Aalborg.

We welcome Lars Maarbjerg to the design team. Lars is an experienced architect and has a degree in Project Management in the Building industry from Danske Byggeøkonomer. Lars will be working on the planning and realization of Carlsberg temporary. We look forward to have Lars with us!

Together with Uffe Elbæk we have developed the idea of a “CPH Social Innovation Lab”, dedicated to solve social and urban challenges, working with public, private and 3rd sector actors. May 25 UiWE / Changedesign and kaospilot Emil Tin invited selected actors related to the field of social innovation to a workshop at Charlottenborg to give feedback on our ideas. We thank everybody for their time and valuable input.

May 18 Christian gives a talk at an idea-generating seminar on the development of Bispeengbuen. On the agenda is how creative businesses can contribute to the urban development process. The municipality of Frederiksberg hosts the seminar.

Carlsberg goes temporary

UiWE have been chosen to design temporary urban spaces in the new neighbourhood of Carlsberg with architectural office Keinicke & Overgaard and a team consisting of Primus Arkitekter and Streeetmovement. Our project aims to turn this unique old industrial area into places where you feel welcome, at home and encouraged to both hang out and be active. The first of three squares is expected to open by the end of June.

UiWE on to phase 2

UiWE has been selected for the second phase of the Køge Kyst competition, aiming at the development of a new, sustainable urban area along the coast of Køge as a part of a team of five companies (Carl Bro Grontmij, 2+1, Ekstrakt, Oxford Research and Polyform). We are responsible for qualifying the cultural strategies of the project. We are looking forward to develop a cultural planning toolkit fit for Køge.

carlsberg nyhedUiWE has been invited to propose a design of temporary urban spaces in the new copenhagen neighbourhood Carlsberg as a part of a team with architectural offic Keinicke & Overgaard. The aim of the competion is to open up the unique old industrial area to the public and enhance urban life, cultural expression and street sports. The project is a joint venture between Realdania, Lokale- og Anlægsfonden (The Danish Foundation for Culture and Sports Facilities), Carlsberg and København Kommune (the city of Copenhagen).

Battle of Rabbit Town screenings

The UiWE documentary about two favela leaders in Brazil in a tough, corrupt election, is screened at Doc Lounge CPH at Husets Café, i Huset March 10th at 8 PM, doors open at 7. An informal Q&A with Christian, Brazilian Music, Capueira, beers and drinks, follow the screening. Battle of Rabbit Town is also shown in Prague, March 10-17, as part of the official selection of One World International Human Rights Film Festival and Christian is going there to present the film.

On wednesday the 3rd of february UiWE was invited by KEC to talk about social innovation and entrepreneurship in urban development. The talk was attended by project managers from urban renewal projects (Områdefornyelse og områdeløft) in the copenhagen area and representatives from center for bydesign (centre of urban design) and center for byudvikling (centre of urban development)

Prequalified for Køge Kyst Competition

kogekystUiWE has been prequalified for the parallel competition for the future development of KØGE KYST with a strong team consisting of Polyform, Grontmij Carl Bro, 2+1, Ekstrakt and Oxford Research. The competion aims at realizing a high-profile strategic project in the 24 hectar area involving the town opening up towards the water and linking the new part of town to the historical town centre.

Designing workshop brief for Amager West

AVLU_nypUiWe has been assigned by Amager Vest Lokal Udvalg (Amager West Community Council) to design the brief for a workshop on the future development of Amager West. The workshop will be attended by Netværk for Yngre Planlæggere (Network for Young Planners), and aims at exploring a cross-diciplinary and process-oriented approach to the development of Amager West.

UiWe produces a new short film on urban artistic intervention as part of the LysLyd-project (SoundLight-project) and COP 15.The German art- and architect group Mader Stubic Wiermann turns Dong Energy’s Avedøre power plant into a 145 meters tall screen for light and video installation.
