Urban design and cultural program
Carlsberg | Carlsberg, LOA, Realdania, Københavns Kommune | 2010

Temporary urban design in Copenhagen encouraging urban life, physical activity and play.
Together with Keinicke & Overgaard, Primus and Streeetmovement, UiWE won an invited competition to design new urban spaces at the old brewery site of Carlsberg in Copenhagen. Our project creates places that encourage people to make themselves at home and be physically active in this unique industrial area. The project was inaugurated by the Mayor of Copenhagen and presented at the Venezia Biennale in 2010 – and will last (at least) for five years.
At UiWE we focused on the overall planning of the area, creating new ways for people to move around, hang out and play. We also developed programs such as ”Under Halvtaget” (Under the Pent Roof) together with Keinicke & Overgaard– a forest of some 3200 ropes under an old pent roof. Our design uses existing qualities and creates new, fun and open-ended activity with a strong identity. Our aim was integrate flexibility, personality and endurance in the design.
